Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Being a Medical Technologist (ASCP) analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits. Requires a bachelor's degree and must be a certified medical technologist. Additionally, Medical Technologist (ASCP) typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Job Summary:
A medical technologist is a highly skilled health professional who tests and analyzes blood and other body substances to aid health care providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Medical technologists are responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment used to analyze specimens and ensuring that automated and manual tests are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

Physical Demands: May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling, maybe required to lift up to 30 pounds. Repetitive use of hands (eg. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary; must be able physically to operate automation used in the job.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (or equivalent) and Registered as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
Licensure: Meets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab Scientist
Experience: Prior laboratory experience is preferred.
Additional Qualifications: Good written and oral communication skills preferred. Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes. Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred.
