Medical Technologist - Hematology performs a variety of blood tests, studies morphology of blood constituents and performs various coagulation tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Conducts technical procedures related to the counting and identification of blood cells and other specialized hematologic tests. Being a Medical Technologist - Hematology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in blood analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Hematology may perform urinalysis studies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Hematology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     The work schedule for this position will be: 3rd shift, Tuesday-Saturday, 12:30am-9:00am. This position is eligible for a 15% shift differential due to 3rd shift hours.

    Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
    • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
    • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
    • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
    • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
    • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
    • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
    • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
    • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
    • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science
    • Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level
    • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
    • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
    • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
    • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
    • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
