Medical Technologist - Hematology performs a variety of blood tests, studies morphology of blood constituents and performs various coagulation tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Conducts technical procedures related to the counting and identification of blood cells and other specialized hematologic tests. Being a Medical Technologist - Hematology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in blood analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Hematology may perform urinalysis studies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Hematology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technologist analyzes blood and body fluids as a diagnostic aid to the physicians by producing accurate and precise test results. This position also has the responsibility of training students, and new employees. The technologist must be able to accurately enter test results into the LIS and communicate effectively throughout the hospital.
Qualifications:
A. Education:
MT(ASCP), MT(AMT), or equivalent. Must meet CLIA education requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testing.
B. Job Knowledge:
Must have a thorough understanding of Clinical Laboratory Procedures.
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Requires ability to lift and move boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
B. Job requires extended periods of standing, walking, and use of stairway.
C. Job involves exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases.
