Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. Job Summary:
The Laboratory Microbiology Supervisor position is responsible for the technical oversight and daily operations of the Microbiology department. Will serve as a liaison between the hospital and Microbiology vendors, supervises day-to-day operations of lab personnel, develops policies and procedures, and provides training and support for all employees as needed. Works closely with other hospital departments to ensure excellent customer service. Job responsibilities include ensuring compliance with any applicable CAP, AABB, FDA, and JCAHO guidelines and other regulatory agencies as needed
Must be currently registered as a Medical Technologist by American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Medical Technologists, National Credentialing Agency OR US Department of Health Education Welfare.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science. Must meet CLIA qualifications for testing personnel.
Previous Lab experience required; Microbiology experience preferred.
