Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. We are currently seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Immunology, although other ranks will be considered for exceptional candidates.
The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) at Creighton University School of Medicine is undergoing a strategic effort to significantly expand its research capacity over the next five years. Candidates whose research interests focus on understanding innate and/or adaptive host response to microbial infection, neuroimmunology, autoimmunity, cancer immunology, or immunotherapy are especially encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree, with a track record of research excellence. Candidates are expected to establish a vigorous independent research program that ideally would complement existing research areas and fit the collegial environment within the School of Medicine. Candidates will have ample opportunity to establish multidisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in other basic science and clinical departments in the School of Medicine, as well as faculty at Creighton’s undergraduate college and health professional schools, including nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry.
