Meeting/Event Director directs the overall planning and strategy for live or virtual meetings and events for an organization. Defines the goals, success metrics, and messaging for events. Being a Meeting/Event Director implements best practices and develops planning standards, policies. and procedures. Additionally, Meeting/Event Director develops a network of vendors. Approves the final selection of venues, catering, technology, and other event support services. Reviews and approves contracts and has overall responsibility for ensuring events stay within budget. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Meeting/Event Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Meeting/Event Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     • Manages day-to-day operations of a national center focused on advancing equity in action at Hispanic Serving Institutions, including serving as project manager for an NSF and foundation funded grant.
    • Develops and implements a strategic plan for the Center informed by and in collaboration with local and national stakeholders. Implements a strategic plan through the launch and administration of major initiatives, programs, events, research activities, work groups, and internal and external engagements to further the aims of the Center. Extensive collaboration will occur with the Vice President of HSI Initiatives (HSII), HSII staff, UA faculty and staff, AZ HSI Consortium, and partners nationwide to develop and implement.  
    • Develops and implements a research program that engages a robust community of researchers, educators, learners, and key stakeholders, including HSI-related consortia, to collaboratively advance new knowledge and improve practice in response to the most pressing challenges and opportunities faced by HSIs and Emerging HSIs. Research will be used to inform advocacy aimed at accelerating conditions that support student thriving at HSIs and Emerging HSIs nation-wide. 
    • Collaborates with partners internal and external to the university to identify, apply for, and secure financial resources to support the Center's operational needs, commitments, and research agenda.
    • Prepares and submits funding proposals to federal agencies and foundations, leads awarded projects, monitors and evaluates program of awarded projects, manages fiscal and human resources, fulfills reporting requirements for awarded projects, and communicates contributions and impact of funded projects and activities to program sponsors and key stakeholders.
    • Communicates progress and impact of the Center and NSF funded project "Hub LISTO" through presentations, webinars, reports, website, social media, media interviews, and other effective and engaging modes of communication.

    • Skilled competency in project management, including the ability to successfully move from ideation to implementation in a fast paced and innovative environment.
