The City of High Point's Department of Planning and Development seeks to fill Planner position within the Development Services Division.
- Provides general information to the public regarding development regulations, including understanding of zoning, subdivision and other standards, and the development review process;
- Assists developers, architects, engineers and general public with specific regulatory requirements and procedures for development projects;
- Reviews or assists in the review of moderately difficult land development plans for compliance with development regulations, including sketch plans;
- Assists in supporting street addressing functions within the department;
- Evaluates and assists in the review of voluntary annexations, rezonings, text amendments, special use permits, street closings, variances and other development proposals;
- Conducts field evaluations and assessments, collect data and information, analyze and summarize existing conditions, derive conclusions, make recommendations, and prepare technical reports;
- Assists in the review and processing of construction permits for zoning compliance (including commercial, residential, and zoning permits);
- Presents oral reports to boards and commissions and attends meetings as needed;
- May be required to drive to various locations to accomplish assignments;
- Assists division head and staff as needed;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, architecture, public policy or a closely related field with at least one (1) year of experience; OR
- High School Diploma with 5 years of progressive planning and/or project management experience.
- NC Driver’s License/ Advanced Drivers License: Valid NC Driver’s License Reqd.

- Years of Experience: At least 1 years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree Planning, architecture, public policy or a closely related field or 5 years with High Scholl Diploma.
