Meeting/Event Planner plans and organizes live or virtual meetings and events for an organization or external clients. Implements an event strategy to achieve objectives. Being a Meeting/Event Planner researches and recommends event venues. Coordinates meeting logistics, including attendee registration, transportation, accommodations, meals, and technology. Additionally, Meeting/Event Planner conducts rehearsals and system checks of all equipment and connectivity. Researches and maintains relationships with vendors for event support services. Coordinates budget planning and ensures that events stay within cost projections. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Meeting/Event Planner occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     The Community Development Department is looking for a civic minded and hardworking candidate to join their team.  An ideal candidate would have strong customer service skills, a passion for innovation and a strong desire to serve the community.  The position will perform a variety of planning-related activities including; serving as liaison to various commissions, reviewing site plans, administering and enforcing the zoning, subdivision, and historic preservation regulations, meeting with citizens, working with GIS system and other duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
     
    Receives and reviews preliminary plats and plans utilizing subdivision ordinance and zoning ordinance to assure compliance; informs developers of subdivision and zoning requirements; makes presentations to the public; answers questions; drafts ordinances and assures that all interested parties are informed of all information.
     
    Serves as Zoning Board of Appeals staff person including, answers questions, receives applications and explains process, reviews cases and prepares agenda, inspects the site of property, writes case background with comments and recommendations; provides technical assistance and assures that minutes of hearing are prepared and results of hearing are mailed to petitioners.
     
    Serves as chair person for the SPRB for multi family and change of use applications.
     
    Issues permits; reviews applications for compliance with zoning ordinances; inspects property for compliance to codes.
     
    Attends neighborhood meetings as a department representative.
     
    Interacts with citizens, public and private organizations by providing information concerning zoning codes and regulations; receives zoning inquiries and complaints from citizens, and private organizations; conducts field visits and inspections on property to determine the nature and validity of complaint; prepares written reports of inspection results, informs responsible parties of specific violations of zoning ordinance; prepares cases for legal action by gathering data supporting the facts of the case, attends court hearings and meets with property owners attorney to assure compliance with zoning codes.
     
    Provides staff assistance and support to the Historic Preservation Commission, Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.
     
    Provides staff assistance and support for one-stop-shop.
     
    Reviews site plans, processes applications and issues zoning certificates for new single family and multi family residential developments, additions, and change of use.
     
    Enters information into computer system to issue zoning certificates for building permit and addition requirements.
     
    Manages and operates the department's Geographic Information System; digitizes new streets, subdivisions, and infrastructure to base map to reflect current street system; updates census bureau maps manually and electronically; creates and maintains various databases and files.
     
    Creates maps utilizing the GIS and data maintained in spread sheets; converts data from one spread sheet system to another, captures electronic GIS maps and converts to various other graphic file formats for printing and presentation purposes.
     
    Participates in long-range project and neighborhood planning including, participating in development, drafting and implementation of long-range, project, and neighborhood planning strategies, participating in organizing and implementing neighborhood workshops and making neighborhood and community presentations.
     
    Responds to public and outside departmental requests for census information; analyzes census data and locally generated data to identify current trends and neighborhood characteristics.
     
    Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Urban Planning, or a related field; one to two years of progressively responsible related experience required.  Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job, considered.

    Principles and practices of urban planning, and zoning.
     
    Methods and techniques, statistics and technical writing standards as applied to planning studies.
     
    Principles of plat and plan review.
     
    Basic principles of land use planning.
     
    Cartographic/mapping systems.
     
    Applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.
     
    Methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis and report presentation.
     
    All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
     
    Skill in:
     
    Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
     
    Researching, compiling, and summarizing a variety of informational and statistical data and materials.
     
     
    Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
     
    Using a computer terminal to accurately and rapidly enter and retrieve data and information.
     
    Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
     
    Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.

    Ability to understand and interpret zoning codes and ordinances.
     
    Ability to speak effectively before public groups and respond to questions.
     
    Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional periodicals and journals, technical procedures and government regulations.

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
