Member Certification Manager manages the certification and credentialing programs of a professional or membership organization. Oversees the development of standards and testing materials. Being a Member Certification Manager develops testing schedules and resource requirements to deliver testing. Collaborates with curriculum designers and instructors to ensure materials present certification requirements accurately and are validated in the certification processes. Additionally, Member Certification Manager develops quality processes to ensure the testing and validation processes accurately measure certification requirements. Optimizes the certification process to ensure members are satisfied and resolves any problems related to the process. May evaluate, select, and monitor outside testing providers to ensure testing quality. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Member Certification Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Member Certification Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     POLICE OFFICER

    FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: Police Department
    REPORTS TO: Chief, Sergeant, Operations Lieutenant

    POSITION SUMMARY AND DEFINITION:

    Police officers help ensure the public safety and enhance the quality of life in Milliken, through law enforcement, the investigation of incidents and crime, the resolution of community problems, proactive policing and crime prevention, all while protecting the public’s civil liberties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. The Town of Milliken retains the right to modify or change the duties or essential and additional functions of the job at any time.

    • An officer’s duties and responsibilities are diverse. Officers will endeavor to preserve the public peace, protect life and property, prevent crime, arrest and cite violators of the law and properly enforce appropriate federal, state and local laws and ordinances while exercising good judgment and discretion.
    • Although police officers are responsible and accountable directly to the chain of command including the chief, they are also accountable to other organizations and authorities including the Town Administrator and the town government, the law, courts, prosecutors, and ultimately the community and public.
    • Officers are responsible for aspects of traffic and highway safety. A Milliken officer is always available to answer the community’s calls for service 24 hours a day.
    • Officers will detect and investigate criminal activity and suspicious circumstances involving vehicles and persons.
    • Officers will be aware of parking restrictions and will educate, warn and cite violators appropriately.
    • Officers will recognize that improving the quality of life in neighborhoods is a central objective for the police in preventing neighborhood decay.
    • Officers will fully document their activities as required by law, department procedure and good sense.
    • Officers shall make themselves familiar with the operation of all appropriate department and personal protective equipment.
    • Officers shall recognize the importance of forging collaborative relationships with other agencies with educational, social service, economic and criminal justice mandates.
    • Officers shall be familiar with the town and its citizens. They will come to know the public safety problems and challenges that the town faces.
    • Officers shall take direction from their supervisor, Chief of Police, and the Town Administrator when appropriate.
    • Recognizes the confidential and sensitive nature of information, following applicable laws, and exercising sound discretion and judgment in the dissemination of that information.
    • Officers may be assigned to special duties, such as School Resource Officer or to a multi-jurisdictional task force as a member, on either a temporary or permanent basis.
    • This list is far from exhaustive and is only illustrative of the range of a police officer’s duties and responsibilities. Officers will assume any duty not inconsistent with the broad mandate to ensure the Town’s public safety, and any task or duty assigned by their supervisor or Police Chief.

    CONTACTS:

    Citizens: Contacts require the explanation of routine and easily understood information.

    Other Divisions/Outside Agencies: Contacts are primarily made at a peer or supervisory level within other functions or departments to coordinate joint work activities and special events or projects. Participation in outside peer groups and organizations associated with job duties and responsibilities.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Understand modern principles of public safety, community and problem oriented policing and law enforcement.
    • Familiar with relevant constitutional principles, Colorado Revised Statutes, Town of Milliken Code, municipal and department policy and procedures; understand how to find answers in the various legal and regulatory authorities; and be able to apply them sensibly and with discretion.
    • Familiar with the use of computers for word processing, report writing, and gathering information from national, state and local criminal justice databases i.e. CCIC, NCIC
    • Effectively, fairly and sensitively deal with a diverse population.
    • Familiarity with the employment of various firearms and weapons, defensive tactics, and be physically capable of defending oneself and the public, and apprehending suspects.
    • Solve problems through analysis, identification of alternative solutions, projection of consequences of proposed actions, and the assessment of implemented responses.
    • Communicate effectively in oral and written fashion. Gain cooperation through discussion, persuasion, education, and consensus building.
    • Familiarity with geography and demographics of the Town and surrounding area, and how it affects service delivery.
    • Understand the central role that police play in community life and the importance of exercising leadership and setting the example for community members and youth.
    • Within a reasonable timeframe, capable of obtaining appropriate certifications or successfully completing required mandated training that includes Criminal Investigations, DUI Investigations, Accident Investigations

    MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:

    Personal computer and various software programs, telephone, photocopier, calculator, fax machine, firearm, flashlight, taser, baton, and a radio.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment. Requires operating a computer, and occasional lifting of boxes. Overtime and flexible schedules may be required to fulfill work overload. Work that is outdoors will commonly be in the community upholding laws imposed by the Town of Milliken, State of Colorado, and the Untied States.

    EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

    • Colorado P.O.S.T. certified.
    • Valid Colorado Drivers License and outstanding driving skills.
    • Twenty-one years of age.
    • Physically fit, including hearing and color perception, and the ability to fully protect oneself, fellow officers and the public, and capable of successfully pursuing and apprehending suspects in a variety of physically demanding situations.
    • Spanish language skills, in addition to English, helpful.
    • U.S. Citizen or Resident.
    • High School diploma or G.E.D.
