    • Provides overall museum registration support for multiple diverse museum collections.
    • Performs duties related to accessions, deaccessions, loans, transfers of property, and object catalog records, and verifies the accuracy of information.
    • Oversees maintenance of all records and documentation for museum collections using automated systems.
    • Provides direction over extensive museum collections and carry out responsibilities in the four museum functions of collections, exhibits, research and education.
    • Rehouses objects using appropriate materials for their long-term preservation.
    This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of three years, or more based on OPM approval and/or any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

    The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.

    To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
    • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects and include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled (including museum documentation for accessions and loans, working with permitted researchers/collectors communicating curation requirements and working with repositories to ship/loan collections). You must include hours per week worked. -OR-
    • EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 full years of graduate education in an accredited educational institution (36 semester hour or 54 quarter hours) directly related to this position. Related education includes art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled. You must include transcripts. -OR-
    • Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take percentage of education. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.

    Physical Demands: The work requires mental alertness, better than average manual dexterity, and mobility. Although primarily sedentary, inspections and evaluations involve activities demanding a certain amount of exertion such as walking, climbing, crawling, lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, and reaching. Working with collections can involve prolonged exposure to hazardous materials. The work entails the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.

    Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in office and storage facilities. Some storage facilities may have rodent or insect infestations. Frequent visits are made to the library and archives office to meet with co-workers. Some travel to other facilities and museums, as well as to training and professional meetings is required. Position may involve limited teleworking depending on weather and other factors pending supervisory approval.

    The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
