Job Description Summary:

The Librarian is well-rounded and responsible for providing reference services to staff, patrons, and museum visitors, both in person and off-site. The Librarian will provide instruction on the use of the library as well as the various media and databases it contains and is responsible for the management of the circulation records of Library resources. Primary areas for oversight include the cataloging of bibliographic material, reference, audio-visual and pamphlet collections, the acquisition process, and Library finance records.

The Librarian reports to The Library and Archives Director who is responsible for the overall management, organization, interpretation, policy-making, and planning for the Heard Museum’s Billie Jane Baguley Library and Archives. The Librarian works in a team-oriented environment, with seasonal interns and Heard Museum Guild volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Trains, coordinates, and supervises library volunteers.
• Catalogs material via OCLC Connexion for WorldCat.
• Tracks the Library and Archives financial operations and budget and is responsible for purchasing a wide variety of library materials, supplies and equipment and services.
• Manages the Library’s continuing resources including both print and electronic serials.
• Manages the Library’s binding and preservation program.
• Utilizes, maintains and interprets various library software applications including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, ARGUS, ContentDM, OCLC Connexion, BestMARC, as well as numerous databases including JSTOR, AskART, Access Newspaper Archives and others.
• Assists in the interpretation, organization, and care of the Native American Artists Resource Collection as well as supervises the library volunteers in that area.
• Provides Library and Archives outreach both within and outside the Heard Museum; in addition oversees and manages the Heard Museum Library Exchange Program.
• Orders all equipment and supplies as well as prospective capital improvements
• Keeps informed on new trends and developments in library science and services and regularly attends programs, workshops and conferences which assist in continuing education in the field.

Education:

Master of Library of Science (preferred) or a 4-year degree (minimum)

Previous Experience:

Three-year Library experience (minimum) preferably in a special library.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
