    Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana (GSSI) is seeking a Membership Support Specialist who is an influential and persuasive networker who can speak passionately about the Girl Scout experience to attract girls, their parents, other caring adults, and community partner organizations to join, volunteer, promote, and give of their time and resources. A successful candidate will be a people person who is results-driven, goal-orientated, and motivated with strong communication and networking skills.

    This dynamic role is responsible for the entire lifecycle of bringing new members and volunteers into Girl Scouts and providing ongoing support throughout the program year. As a Membership Support Specialist, you will lead the development and execution of girl and adult membership recruitment and retention plans to achieve annual membership goals and outcomes, using methods that reflect the community's strengths. This role also supports volunteers throughout the year, including recruiting, selecting, appointing, training, and evaluating their success.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Acting as an ambassador of the mission and values of Girl Scouts and increasing awareness to positively impact membership growth and retention by engaging in the community by working with schools, faith-based institutions, businesses, etc., to build community awareness, highlight benefits of membership, and impact membership growth.
    • Meeting individual membership and retention goals and benchmarks by hosting events, including but not limited to in-person meetings, back-to-school and troop sign-up nights, and in-school girl talks and programs.
    • Attending events and community engagements to promote the benefits of the Girl Scout experience.
    • Building connections and partnerships with organizations in assigned communities.
    • Guiding new families and volunteers through the process of joining Girl Scouts and helping them find the right place within the organization.
    • Supporting volunteer and girl retention by providing excellent customer service and relationship management.
    • Providing volunteer management, training, and ongoing support. This includes volunteer placement, supervision, and ongoing training support.
    • Keeping current on program information (Girl Scout Leadership Experience, highest awards, product program, etc.) and support training and messaging offered to volunteers.
    • Interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures with volunteers.
    • Public speaking/presentations to both large and small groups.
    • Frequent local travel, up to 50% of the time, during the peak seasons.

    Requirements:

    • Previous work experience in a related field with proven member recruitment, volunteer management, and customer engagement success.
    • Outstanding collaboration and relationship-building skills.
    • Strong team and project leadership skills.
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines and benchmarks.
    • Must be organized, detail-orientated, and customer-focused.
    • Impeccable communication skills, including verbal and written, and public speaking.
    • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, and ease in learning new applications.
    • Ability to travel to meetings, events, and community partner locations. Reliable transportation.
    • Ability and willingness to work primarily on-the-road with minimal time in the office.
    • Ability to transport and set up event equipment and materials, including canopy tents with weights, tables, etc.
    • Familiarity with the demographic and cultural needs of the assigned area(s).

    Details:

    • Full-time position with a minimum of 30 hours a week with additional hours during peak recruitment months of August – November and April – May.
    • Able to work flexible hours to include days, frequent evenings, and some weekends.
    • Have reliable transportation.
    • Must pass a background check.
    • This position will involve a lot of time working in the field, which requires regular and frequent travel to meetings and events within the assigned service area(s). For office work, staff can choose to work remotely, in-office at our Evansville headquarters, or as a hybrid. All necessary equipment will be provided by Girl Scouts.

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Hourly Rate: $15/hour (Additional bilingual pay differential available for Spanish speaking candidates)
