As a Y Membership Representative, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional service to all members, guests, and program participants. You will be responsible for responding promptly to customer inquiries and organizational needs, and promoting Y memberships and programs to potential members.
Your role will also include maintaining a clean, safe, and presentable facility, ensuring that all areas are well-maintained and free from hazards. As a key point of contact with members and visitors, you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to handle any issues or concerns with professionalism and empathy.
Ultimately, as a Y Membership Representative, you will be an essential part of our team, helping to create a welcoming, inclusive environment that inspires our members to live healthier, more active lives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides exceptional service to members, guests, and program participants in person and over the phone, utilizing strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships and contribute to member retention.
- Actively markets and promotes Y memberships, conducting thorough interviews and tours that are responsive to the unique needs and interests of prospective members. Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of membership options, benefits, and policies.
- Maintains open lines of communication with supervisor and other departments, sharing important information, responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner, and collaborating effectively to meet shared goals.
- Builds strong relationships with members, actively seeking to understand and support their needs, interests, and goals. Facilitates opportunities for members to connect with one another and the broader YMCA community.
- Takes ownership of membership concerns, resolving issues promptly and effectively while keeping supervisor informed of any unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of all YMCA policies related to member services, ensuring consistent and accurate application across all interactions.
- Completes membership department projects as directed, utilizing strong organizational and time management skills to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Monitors facility and conducts regular rounds in the evening, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all members and guests.
- Supports other department projects as directed, demonstrating a willingness to be flexible and contribute to shared goals.
- Performs other duties as directed, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to the YMCA mission and values.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain standing or sitting for extended periods of time, using good posture and body mechanics to avoid discomfort or injury.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds without assistance, using proper lifting techniques and seeking assistance as needed for heavier items.
- Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time, using good ergonomics to minimize the risk of strain or injury. Must also be able to lift and move papers, file folders, office supplies, and other items as needed, using proper lifting techniques and seeking assistance as needed for heavier or bulky items.
- Must be able to navigate the physical environment of the YMCA facility, including stairs, ramps, and other obstacles, to perform job duties as required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with members, guests, and colleagues in person, over the phone, and via email, utilizing good hearing, vision, and speech skills.
- Must be able to operate office equipment, such as computers, printers, copiers, and phones, with good dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to work effectively with others in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating good interpersonal skills and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
