    JOB OVERVIEW

    Philanthropy Northwest is seeking an innovative, strategic and driven Director, Development and Membership to spearhead fundraising, membership recruitment/retention and member engagement strategies in alignment with our mission. This pivotal role requires an outstanding results-driven leader, creative mindset, exceptional communication skills and a proven ability to cultivate and manage exceptional relationships with funders, partners and members across diverse organizations.

    The Director will collaborate closely with PNWs CEO to implement a strategic multi-year and targeted fundraising campaign focused on increasing general operating support. Additionally, they will play a key role in executing our new strategic plan, which emphasizes deeper member engagement across our six-state region. This includes developing and leading strategies to enhance member recruitment, retention and engagement with PNW initiatives.

    The successful candidate will have a track record of translating strategic objectives into actionable goals, with demonstrated experience in innovative network engagement and fundraising approaches. We are seeking a leader passionate about advancing our mission to grow the philanthropic sectors capacity to distribute more resources and power to underinvested communities in the Northwest. Candidates with a demonstrated track record in developing and executing successful fund development campaigns and/or building member-based organizations are encouraged to apply.

    • Location- Hybrid position based in Seattle or anywhere in our geographic service area: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon or Washington, or Wyoming with periodic in-person presence at HQ in Seattle.
    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Leadership and Fund Development

    • Lead Philanthropy Northwests development function, developing and executing a fund development plan to meet short and long-term revenue goals, [JC1] with a primary focus on increasing general operating support grants from current members and funders.
    • Develop an annual membership plan, setting strategies and goals for member renewals and new member growth.
    • Oversee the membership and development teams collaboration with staff across departments to ensure thoughtful member engagement is integrated into all organizational areas, including programs, public policy, communications and consulting services.
    • Analyze fundraising data regularly to assess performance and adjust strategies as necessary.
    • Serve as a member of the leadership team and contribute to the strategic direction, health of the enterprise, and development of organization-wide decision-making, policy and processes.
    Member Recruitment, Retention, and Engagement

    • Drive the growth of Philanthropy Northwests membership through cultivating strong relationships and strategic partnerships with member organizations, affiliates, and other key stakeholders such as nonprofit, public and private community partners.
    • Develop and execute strategies for member engagement, retention, and growth, overseeing the annual membership campaign, and maintaining up-to-date information on member organizations and interests.
    • Serve as lead staff for the boards member engagement committee, facilitating quarterly meetings and ongoing engagement.
    • In collaboration with Manager, Membership and Programs, develop and manage a comprehensive member acquisition strategy, identifying and nurturing prospects, collaborating with the communications team to develop compelling messages, managing onboarding and intake activities, and achieving annual targets.
    • Establish and administer survey instruments to gather member input and annual satisfaction data, ensuring continuous improvement in member experience.
    • Facilitate connections between members and Philanthropy Northwest programs.
    • Oversee the efforts of the Manager, Membership and Programs to proactively engage with members, identifying trends and emerging themes.
    • Represent Philanthropy Northwest at member programs and community events.
    • Collaborate with the communications and program teams to highlight members work and learning opportunities.
    • Share insights and information about member trends with staff across the enterprise, fostering connections, identifying synergies and keeping all staff informed of relevant developments.
    • Stay updated on philanthropic trends and information.
    Supervisory Responsibility

    • Mentor and supervise the Manager, Membership and Programs to maintain robust membership processes and administration.
    • Supervise Specialist, Salesforce and Knowledge Management, responsible for managing Salesforce database, including maintaining data accuracy, monitoring database integrity and supporting staff in data-driven decision-making.
    • Provide guidance and accountability for team members workplans, tracking and advancing annual goals, and offering essential support for their success.
    • Support team members career development by identifying strengths and interests to co-create growth opportunities, including training and other relevant resources.
    Other

    • Engage in enterprise-wide activities and team building, including staff meetings, peer coaching, learning and development, annual conference, staff committees and other enterprise events throughout the year.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • 10 overall experience with 5 years of experience in development with a successful track record independently and collaboratively managing foundation and corporate grants identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and/or managing membership campaigns or member-affiliated programs.
    • 3 years of experience leading and managing direct reports, demonstrating effective management, empathy, and collaboration.
    • 5 years of experience in resource development, including securing grants and sponsorships, major gift solicitation and special events.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and appeals materials.
    • Proven experience in developing and maintaining systems to track development, communications and member involvement. Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM databases, including database maintenance and data analysis.
    • Ability to periodically travel throughout PNWs six-state region and nationally.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively and manage relationships with integrity and effectiveness across diverse communities.
    • Strong commitment to advancing equity and/or racial justice within a team, organization, or community.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    The annual compensation for a full-time position includes a package of benefits consisting of medical, dental, retirement contribution by employer (6% of salary and additional up to 2% dollar to dollar match (upto $1,800/year) to employee contribution), professional development paid holidays and generous vacation policy, and flexible schedule. Annual salary range is $120,000-$140,000 depending on experience.
