Men's Athletics Director directs all facets of a university/college's men's athletic program, including intramural and intercollegiate sports. Manages the entire men's coaching staff. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     The Churchill School and Center, seeks an experienced, full-time Director of Athletics.

    This position reports directly to the Head of School and will be responsible for leading, innovating, and inspiring a positive school-wide culture around athletics and physical activity. In addition to overseeing the administration, communication, and supervision of Churchill’s engagement in interscholastic athletics and our involvement with the Independent School Athletic League (ISAL) and The New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), the Director will partner and collaborate with Churchill’s Physical Education Department, providing part-time instruction as assigned.

    The Director of Athletics will be a positive and visible presence in the Churchill Community, actively engaging in the life of the School and serving as an ambassador for visiting teams and families. This is an 11-month, non-exempt position that follows the academic calendar. Weekend and evening hours will be required at times.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Holding true to Churchill’s Mission, Vision, and Principles.
    • Coordinating seasonal interscholastic sports, including coordinating with the ISAL and NYSAIS, student-athletes, school professionals, and parents.
    • Develop and review athletics policies and expectations for student athletes, school professionals, and parents.
    • Maintaining and updating seasonal sports events, rosters, and practice schedules
    • Hiring seasonal sports coaches
    • Managing annual athletics budget
    • Reserve transportation for athletic events as necessary.
    • Reserve external practice facilities as necessary.
    • Represent Churchill at league meetings and NYSAIS athletic events.
    • Provide general assistance for athletic events on campus, including evening and weekend hours as necessary.
    • Purchase and maintain athletics equipment and uniforms.
    • Partnering with the Physical Education Department, teaching and/or assisting in classes and necessary or assigned.
    • Working with coaches to plan the awards banquet.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred.
    • 5 years of experience in a similar role.
    • Previous coaching experience at the high school level or higher.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Strong communications skills and ability to differentiate between student athletes, school professionals, and parents.
    • Experience developing athletics programs.
    • A high degree of emotional intelligence, cultural competency, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • A commitment to personal growth.
    • A sense of humor.

    Compensation

    • $115,000 - $155,000 – commensurate with experience
    • Benefits package: 10 days annual personal/sick time, annual merit-based bonus pay, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, disability income benefits, flexible spending account, health savings account, commuter benefits, paid family leave, daily complimentary lunch, professional development opportunities, 403(b) retirement plan with a 7% employer contribution after 2-years employment.
