Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Mental Health Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out duties specific to assigned work shift; assist clients in meal preparation during shift; supervise clients in household tasks and to teach clients component skills associated with routine household tasks; insure that clients adhere to household rules; transport group home clients; arrange for community outings for clients; assist Home Coordinator in providing instruction over a variety of socialization skills; lead activities; provide supportive guidance; monitor medications.
Client Care. (Examples of tasks: assist clients when necessary in personal hygiene. Tasks may include but are not limited to assistance with Depends or adult undergarments, bathing, hair care, getting dressed, or removing clothing.)
Meet productivity requirements of the program as set by the Residential Coordinator and/or Residential Specialist.
Check and maintain current Essential Learning training updates. View email per policy requirements.
Adherence to provider care standards; will insure that all standards of care are maintained on a consistent basis; will provide accurate and timely documentation in accordance with established standards.
Participate in team effort of the Residential Division (Examples of tasks: staff cases with other Division members within the catchment area when necessary).
Housekeeping (Examples of tasks: Perform cleaning of group home in conjunction with residents and other group home staff; monitor client assigned tasks; schedule periodic thorough cleaning projects; identify repair needs).
All other duties as assigned.
