Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision.     Job Summary and Qualifications

    Position Summary: Works under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and Program Director and under close direction of the Registered Nurse administering patient care and related activities, services and /or procedures to promote the physical and emotional health and personal comfort needs for assigned patients. The Mental Health Technician is responsible for patient safety, as well as assisting with daily hygiene, ambulation, and other delegated tasks, and adhering to all regulations in providing safe, quality care to our patients. Delivery of patient care includes data collection, documentation, communication and implementation of patient care

    interventions in accordance with state Nursing Practice Acts and generic/unit structure standards. Functions as a member of the treatment team and accepts responsibilities for specifically assigned duties, such as patient observation rounds, suicide risk observation and assisting with behavior modification programs.

    What qualifications you will need:

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education: High School or GED required. Preferred college degree or course work in Psychology or related Human Services field.

    Licensure/Certifications: BLS. CPI (Nonviolent crisis intervention within 30 days of hire)

    Experience: None required. Prefer 1 year in a mental health or human services field

    • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
    • High School Graduate / GED
