Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Located on the shores of two Great Lakes, Pathways Community Mental Health serves Alger, Delta, Luce and Marquette Counties of Michigan. Pathways provides specialized mental health services to adults who have a serious mental illness (SMI), adults and children who have an intellectual/ developmental disability (I/DD) and children and adolescents who have a serious emotional disturbance (SED).
Pathways offers recovery orientated outpatient and community based mental health services which include; psychiatry, therapy (individual, group, family), case management, community living supports, skill building and supported employment, assertive community treatment, wraparound, home based services and 24/7 crisis support services. Pathways also provides specialty services, which include occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and applied behavior analysis. In addition, we have ABA clinics located in Marquette and Escanaba.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs supportive tasks in the care, training, safety and general well-being of recipients in Community Living Supports/Community Support. Provide a full range of direct care services in such areas as leisure/recreation, communication, religious, cultural, and educational activities; vocational pursuits; activities related to entertainment, development of work attitudes; development of living skills; volunteerism; relationship building; assistive technology; environmental modifications; and family support. Implement and provide only services assigned or determined in the Person-Centered Plan. This position requires flexible hours and days to include evenings, nights and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements; High school diploma or GED. Prefer one year of experience working in the Human Services Field. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Michigan driver’s license.
