Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Duties:
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine the appropriate treatment plan for individuals struggling with substance abuse
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients, utilizing various therapeutic techniques such as psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis
- Develop and implement treatment plans that address the specific needs and goals of each client
- Monitor clients' progress throughout the treatment process and make adjustments to the treatment plan as necessary
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as social workers and medical staff, to ensure comprehensive care for clients
- Document all client interactions and progress in medical records according to established guidelines
- Provide crisis management and intervention services as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field such as addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or social work
- Certification or licensure as a substance abuse counselor (e.g., CADC, LCADC) preferred
- Knowledge of addiction counseling techniques and evidence-based practices
- Familiarity with medical documentation procedures and standards
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other professionals
- Experience in crisis management and intervention is highly desirable
