Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Mental Health Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

As a Mental Health Tech, you'll partner with Psych Nurses to assure safe and quality nursing care in accordance with approved policies, procedures and schedules. In our psych unit of 20 beds at Bryn Mawr Hospital, you will assist patients with their daily living, take vital signs, observe patients' behaviors, plan patient activities and/or support groups and respond to crisis situations in a timely manner. You will be skilled in prevention strategies to avoid crisis and problems that arise for your patients. The work you do makes a tremendous impact.

    Position: Mental Health Technician

    Shifts Available: Full Time Nights, and Per Diem

    Experience:

    One year of psychiatric experience on an inpatient psychiatric unit or comparable experience preferred 

    One year of psychiatric experience on an inpatient psychiatric unit or comparable needed for per diem positions


    Education:

    1. High school diploma required.

    2. BA in Psychology or equivalent degree preferred.

    3. Nursing Student--clinical rotation experience is great too!
