Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Mental Health Practitioner Qualifications:
Required to have completed one of the following:
have a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science/related field from an accredited college/university and has completed 2000 hours of supervised clinical experience delivering clinical services to treat mental illness or children with emotional disturbances
fluent in the dominant, non-English language of at least 50% of the practitioner’s clients (ex. Somali), has completed 40 hours of training about delivering services to clients with mental illness or children with emotional disturbances and attends a Minimum of weekly clinical supervision with a mental health professional until reaching the required 2,000 hours of supervised experience
Completed 6000 hours of supervised clinical services experience delivering mental illness treatment
is enrolled as a graduate student in behavioral science/related field and is formally assigned to K Behavioral Health for clinical training by an accredited college/ university
has obtained a Master’s degree/doctorate in a behavioral science/related field from an accredited college/university.
All practitioners will provide copies of degrees that are required for the position and report during the hiring process any disciplinary actions that have occurred in the past or are under review currently.

A criminal background check and Child protection background check act is performed on all individuals seeking employment or internships at the agency to provide services. K Behavioral Health will have potential employees sign the Child Protection Background Check Act Consent Form and Child Protection Predatory Offender Registry Release of Information. When a staff is offered employment, the employment will be subject to passing the background checks. Once the provider is offered employment, he/ she will be responsible for getting the National fingerprint-based background check completed within 7 days of the employment offer.
