Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision.     The Mental Health Technician delivers quality direct patient care through a structured safe therapeutic environment. Responsibilities include: Contributing as an active part of the treatment team, patient close observation, patient escorts, providing redirection & consistency. This position will provide direct patient care through a structured safe therapeutic environment.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Interacts well with patients maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
    • Takes vital signs and assists with ADLs as needed by patients
    • Maintains accurate close observation sheets and is aware of special precautions that apply
    • Transports patients according to proper policy and procedure.
    • Intervenes appropriately in crisis situations.
    • Speaks and addresses patients, visitors and fellow staff in hallways, lobby and cafeteria.

    Qualifications:

    • Education
      : High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors Degree in Psychology preferred
    • Experience: One year of mental health experience or background required.
    • Hours: Determined by the Chief Nursing Officer
