Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Duties include assisting patients with their ADL’s, completing 15 minute checks on patients, assisting with group programming, documentation of care and treatments done and observes patients for safety and condition change and reports to appropriate staff.

| · Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 30 days of hire. | · Must be CPI/MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment (renewal every 2 years).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
| · Basic computer knowledge · Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals. · Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred. · Ability to move and lift patients and use appropriate equipment. · Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately. · Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written). |
