Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. LifeSpring Health Systems is seeking a 1st shift Mental Health Technician for our Supported Group Living Home in Jasper, IN. Requirements include an Associates Degree in a human services field OR two years of college towards a Bachelor's Degree in a human services field OR two years of direct patient care experience with mentally ill clients. Candidates must pass a background check and have an excellent driving record. Other skills needed include computer and typing skills, excellent personal boundaries, ability to be empathetic but firm and understand mental illness and substance abuse as a disease process.
