Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Overview:
To provide representative payee services to adult Social Security (SSA/SSI) beneficiaries living with severe and persistent mental illness and/or co-occurring developmental disabilities. Representative payee caseloads range from 70-75 beneficiaries (i.e, clients).
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Determine a client's basic monthly needs and how best to address them base on their income and abilities to self-budget.
* Assist clients with developing a budget and counsel clients on ways to stay within the budget.
* Meet individually with clients to determine weekly/monthly spending requests, discuss changes in bills, assist with utility hook-ups, etc.
* Closely monitor all assigned cases and maintain appropriate, accurate electronic and paper records of deposits, payments, and other transactions.
* Coordinate with others (such as county case managers, housing staff, counselors, etc.) who are assisting the client on issues related to client finances or client behavior related to finances.
* Collaborate with county case managers and work to promote the Representative Payee Program county-wide.
* Utilize the phone to exchange information and do problem solving with clients and behavioral health providers. Return phone calls promptly.
* Utilize de-escalation skills and techniques with clients who are angry or threatening (training will be provided).
* Provide timely notification to Social Security Administration if a client experiences any changes in circumstances, such as address change, change in employment, etc.
* Provide, as needed, a client's transaction history from RPM (Representative Payee Manager) software.
* Maintain strict confidentiality concerning both program applicants and accepted clients while carrying out all duties.
* Complete the annual Representative Payee Report for each client, listing client funds received and funds spent.
* Participate in Social Security audits of representative payee activities/services.
* Maintain a courteous and professional tone and manner with clients and providers in all communications.
*Participate actively in on-going professional growth and development; maintain professional behavior and participate in supervisory meetings.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education, Skills, and Abilities:
* 4-year degree in related field preferred
* Familiarity with Social Security processes
* Extremely detailed oriented, punctual, financially literate, and possessing superior interpersonal skills.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Exceptional organizational skills.
* Able to problem solve using analytical skills, creativity, and logical thinking to reach a solution.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and other common desktop applications.
* Familiar with mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues and dynamics.
* Ability to collaborate with others.
* Able to meet all documentation requirements.
Starting wage & Benefits:
* Hourly, non-exempt starting rate: $17.00/hour
