We are seeking an experienced Assistant Buyer in our corporate office. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneur’s mind set and a proven track record of purchasing. We purchase finished goods from manufacturers for resale to the Federal Government, but manufacturing buying experience is welcome.
Additionally, experience with vendor relations, customer service and the ability to strategically manage 100 vendors are required.

Duties:

• Manage inventory
• Assess, manage and mitigate risks
• Develop and execute purchasing strategies in a fast paced environment
• Issue purchase orders and monitor them closely until closed
• Develop customer order fulfillment strategies for on time and profitable deliveries
• Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
• Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
• Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation
• Seek and partner with reliable suppliers and maintain positive vendor relations
• Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
• Prepare documents for regulatory bodies
• Coordinate drivers, vehicles, loads and journeys
• Ensure compliance with company policies and shipping legislation

Skills / Knowledge:

• Proven experience as a buyer
• Supply chain, logistics or relevant field is a plus
• Ability to multi-task is key
• Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
• Must be process and procedure driven
• Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
• A knack for negotiation and networking
• Ability to gather and analyze data
• Solid judgment along with decision making skills
• Strong leadership capabilities with an entrepreneurial spirit
• Knowledge of tactical industry

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree is required, however, prior experience may be considered
• 3 Years experience in Microsoft Office environment with emphasis on Excel
• 3 Years of customer service
• Experience with government procurement a plus
• Successful completion of drug screening test
