- Sr. Strategic Buyer Position Title: Sr. Strategic Buyer Reports To: Procurement Manager Position Summary: Hunt Valve Company has been manufacturing shipboard valves for over 100 years, largely operating in the naval defense sector. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing and in need of a Sr. Strategic Buyer to join our purchasing team. This position would directly support the purchasing teams day-to-day activities to ensure work progresses on schedule and with high quality. Hunt offers a unique working environment that allows a hands-on individual to develop and grow as the company expands its footprint and maintains high performance as a trusted defense contractor. Responsibilities: Identify supplier best fit and quote a broad array of commodities Strategically negotiate terms and pricing to align with company goals Work closely with engineering and quality departments to ensure material is of highest quality Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal customers Work with planning and operations to support manufacturing schedules Work directly with the Procurement Manager to oversee the purchasing department performance and provide support to vendor management specialists Identifies and implements ideas for performance improvement, cost savings and supplier/supply strategy Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years as a Buyer/Purchasing/Procurement role, preferably in a manufacturing environment Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or related business from an accredited institution preferred Excellent analytical and financial skills Experience procuring castings, forgings and raw materials desired Familiar with machining centers and working with outside machining suppliers Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Works well in a fast-paced environment with minimal day-to-day supervision Working experience in an ERP system, preferably Infor Visual Highly skilled in Excel, Word, Power-Point Exercise strong problem-solving skills Be able to comprehend blueprints and drawings Experience with Percentage of Completion (POC) methodology preferred but not required
