    POSITION SUMMARY: The Buyer will manage both production and non-production parts in the assigned commodity areas. The Buyer will be responsible for following established purchasing department procedures to coordinate activities involved with managing suppliers and necessary purchase order requirements. The Buyer works within current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) ensuring the consistency and quality of products and production activities. 

    FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

    RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job. 

    • Evaluates Supplier quotes and services. 
    • Evaluates cost savings opportunities and presents findings to supervisor. 
    • Prepares and processes purchase orders for Maintenance, Repairs, and Operations (MRO) and other commodity areas as assigned. 
    • Maintains cooperative working relationship with Suppliers to stay current with trends and technologies, products, and services. 
    • Manages suppliers and purchase orders for specific commodity. This includes the monitoring of On-Time-Deliveries (OTD) and maintenance of Open Order Reports, including ERP date and notation maintenance, and the expedite of shipments when requested. 
    • Resolves problems and issues arising from purchases of goods, services, supplies and equipment with internal and external customers.
    • Assists in the documentation and research associated with non-conforming materials and/or products. 
    • Maintains a professional attitude when under stress or deadlines and demonstrates good judgment with both internal and external customers. 
    • Strong team player and gets along with co-workers and supervisors. Responds appropriately to instructions, coaching, and continuous improvement from supervisors and management staff. 
    • Pays attention to detail, completes assigned work accurately, neatly, and fully. 
    • Takes initiative to make sound decisions, within the guidelines provided, is consistent in their work, and sees projects thru to a satisfactory end, with minimal direction and oversight. 
    • Knows and follows the Department’s policies and procedures and Thorne Research policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. 

    What You Need: 

    Experience and/or Education: Highschool diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred. 0-3 years of experience in the field or related field area. 

    Computer Skills: Proficiency in learning Microsoft Office systems is required, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in ERP systems is also preferred.
