Men’s Buyer Job Description Summary
Under the Direct Supervision of the Inventory Manager, the Men’s Buyer will be responsible for purchasing all men’s clothing and accessories. This position requires a business-minded, self-motivated professional with passion and enthusiasm. The ideal candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and have a strong desire to be part of a team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- What each brand partner’s seasonal and annual sales totals are and whether there is an opportunity to grow our overall business with the brand.
- The visual merchandising plan for each brand partner and how they will be displayed on the EEO sales floor for each season. Men’s Buyer and Visual Merchandiser should work together to create this merchandising plan and communicate it to ownership, management, and staff.
- How our long-term and short-term business strategies for each brand partner relate to EEO’s overall strategy for the department as a whole.
- Therefore, it is your job responsibility to have a complete understanding of the overall objectives that EEO has for the department you represent and can clearly and accurately communicate those objectives to our brand partners.
- Likewise, it is your job responsibility to work with our brand partners to gather as much information as possible regarding the overall direction they are going with their company, product assortments, and marketing strategies so that you can clearly and accurately communicate those brand objectives to EEO ownership, management, and staff.
- Schedule appointments with brand partners to view their seasonal product offerings. The Men’s Buyer would travel approximately 20-30 days each year.
- Have a clear understanding of how to run key Retail Pro sales data reports and use the data generated to assist you with the process of creating a product assortment plan for the brand.
- Create and submit pre-season orders for each brand partner that allows EEO to maximize our sales potential within each product category as well as receive maximum discounts, best dating terms, and optimal delivery dates.
- Ensure that all orders are properly submitted to the data entry team. It is the responsibility of the Men’s Buyer to work back with the accounting team to resolve any terms (discount and dating) discrepancies between what was on the order, stated on the brand partner’s pre-season booking program, and entered in OTB versus what was on their brand partner’s invoice.
- Revise all pre-season orders in a timely manner (typically 30 days from the start ship date) so that each brand partner can make the necessary changes before the order starts to process for shipment and to ensure that EEO can maximize any dating and discounts associated with the order. When brand partners ship these revised orders unrevised, the Men’s buyer will also be expected to work back with the discrepancy manager, vendors, receiving, and accounting to resolve the situation in a timely manner.
- Research, develop, implement, and manage the model stock process for applicable brand partners under your authority.
- Based on the sales data and current inventory levels for each brand, the Men’s Buyer will be responsible for analyzing in-season data for each brand and submitting in-season orders for each brand in a timely manner so that EEO can maximize our sales potential and maintain a healthy profit margin.
- Give ownership and management frequent updates on how individual brand partners and specific products are performing so that EEO can maximize our sales and profitability by spotting trends faster than other retailers.
- Evaluate the merchandising plan for each brand partner with Visual Merchandiser multiple times each season to see if EEO’s original plan was executed properly or if there are any changes that need to be made to maximize our sales and profitability with every brand partner.
- Work with vendors onpoor-performingg items so that we can obtain Return Authorizations and/or stock swaps for better-performing items in a timely manner.
- Oversee the creation of the discontinued product and poor performers listing, and work with merchandiser and store management on creating seasonal markdown plans for these products.
- Continually research industry and market trends to identify brands that might be a fit for EEO and present them to ownership and management for consideration.
- It is the Men’s Buyer’s responsibility to make sure brands under your authority are provided with a copy of the EEO Freight Routing Guidelines.
