Reviews success of previous orders to determine extent to which inventory should be replenished. Being a Merchandise Buyer researches new trends or advances in product lines to make appropriate buying decisions. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Merchandise Buyer typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Merchandise Buyer typically requires 4 to 7 years of related experience. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, sourcing potential suppliers, constant verbal and written communication with customers/vendors; reviewing contract requirements; preparing/sending RFQs & POs to suppliers; preparing and performing sales quotations through electronic interfaces; meeting contractual deadlines; resolution of discrepancies; and overall evaluation of suppliers. Candidate must be self-motivated, outgoing, organized and possess strong problem solving and analytical skills. Must have at least 1 year experience in purchasing within the marine industry. Also, must have advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (i.e. MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel). Some travel may be required.
