Merchandise Buyer, Sr. jobs in Richmond, VA

In support of our mission, Quick Response Fire Supply has an immediate opening for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Buyer to join our team.

You will purchase the right items to meet order demand, prevent backorders, and stay within budget. You will cultivate beneficial relationships with our vendors to facilitate the smooth movement of parts.

To do this job well, you must be very comfortable working in Excel and learning new Software-as-a-Service applications, be empathetic, yet persistent in vendor communications, and use deductive reasoning skills to help inform purchasing decisions. Last but not least, you must understand and apply the concepts behind effective forecasting to ensure we have the right items available for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Become a fire protection product and market expert to make informed purchasing decisions.
• Utilize forecasting software and your own experience to identify stock needs.
• Purchase materials required for inventory and drop-ship orders.
• Promptly respond to internal team requests for sourced items, inventory availability, and product information.
• Review invoices received for accuracy before closing out purchase orders.
• Develop strong relationships with existing vendors to negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and delivery conditions.
• Conduct annual vendor meetings to strengthen the relationship while maintaining and sharing a Vendor Scorecard to track performance.
• Regularly evaluate product performance to improve inventory turns and stock levels.
• Based on current and projected demand, maintain accurate inventory statuses (in stock, drop-ship, purchase on request, etc.).
• Utilize advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
• Proactively contact vendors persistently to obtain quote or order status.
• Understand the intricacies of forecasting for continuous improvement.
• Keep our Inventory Management Software (Cin7) and forecasting software up-to-date and accurate at all times.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
• Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role, with a strong background in Excel.
• Stable career history. History of meeting and/or exceeding performance targets.
• Exceptional negotiation skills – you don’t let an opportunity to save a dollar pass you by.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong deductive reasoning abilities.
• Experience effectively forecasting inventory and the ability to analyze and enhance forecasting processes.
• Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Reliable transportation to/from Ashland, VA. This is not a remote position.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
