Merchandise Planner plans and forecasts for future merchandise buys based on historical buys, reoccurring buys and current inventory levels. Responsible for reviewing stock to sales ratios, responding to changing sales trends, and ensuring plan sales, plan markups, and plan markdowns are achieved by departments. Being a Merchandise Planner plans and coordinates merchandise flow-through. Inputs and maintains data in various merchandising systems. Additionally, Merchandise Planner may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Merchandise Planner gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     SUMMARY:

    The following is a brief description of responsibilities to be performed by the Merchandise Planner.  Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ·        Forecast weekly and monthly sales based on historical trends and future anticipated business at the departmental level to manage business and control inventory.

    ·         Weekly reporting to Buying staff and Open to Buy results forecasts.

    ·         Analyze and interpreting the Merchandise Plans utilizing the SAS Planning system.

    ·         Identifying any irregularities and potential issues in the SAS Planning system, ensuring that all facets of the planning process are protected and are accurately reported.

    ·         Collaborate with peers to ensure consistency of information, share best practices.

    ·         Suggesting changes to such plans in accordance with current trends and/or historical data.

    ·         Derive weekly sales plans based on monthly sales goals, historical performance and calendar holiday schedule.

    ·         Analysis as needed, recognizing risks and opportunities in business.

    ·         Attend and lead monthly merchandise planning meeting with GMM, DMM’s, Buyers, and supervisors to review sales, inventory, markdowns, stock to sales, etc. within proposed merchandise plans.

    ·         Suggest revisions as needed

    ·         Document research and follow up on all data integrity issues surrounding the planning and Open to Buy.

    ·         Consistently challenge the team to increase sales while managing turn and GM goals.

    ·         Identify all risks and opportunities within merchandise plans.

    ·         Recommend supporting course of action.

    ·         Weekly analysis and interpretation of sales reports and both the dollar and unit levels, utilizing Decision tool to pull data and create spreadsheets to further expand on knowledge of the business.

    ·         Review and understand company reports used as tools to manage the planning process.

    ·         Unit Planning of Key Item styles.

    ·         Partner with allocation:

    o    Consolidate strategies of seasonal and other key categories to maximize sales.

    o    New store plan execution

    ·         Buyer Support:

    o    Review on-order and suggest extensions or cancellations.

    o    Provide historical and current business analysis as needed.

    o    Create buy breaks at any and all levels, seasonally, to support the Buyer in the Open to Buy process.

    o    Attend departmental OTB and Buying meetings to discuss and improve business.

    o    Expected to recognize and recommend markdowns.

    ·         New Stores:

    o    Planning inventory accurately and completely all new stores that Tilly’s open during any time.

    o    Researching any deficiencies in merchandise mix and suggesting alternatives to ensure successful openings.

     

    ·         Personal Performance:

    o    Assist in the training of new staff members.

    o    Gives continuous constructive feedback.

    o    Remain open, positive, and adaptable to change the new challenges for growth.

    o    Documents suggestions, ideas, areas of opportunities for growth or improvement of the company and communicates them to supervisors.

    o    Leads by example.

    o    Clear and concise communication with upper management.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    ·         Proficient in the use of Excel and  MS Word.

    ·         Ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

    ·         Detail oriented and organized.

    ·         Able to effectively use common office equipment.

    ·         Ability to reprioritize projects frequently.

    ·         Must have ability to multitask.

    ·         Independent, self-motivated, team player.

    ·         Able to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management.

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    ·         1-4 years of Planning/Allocation experience preferred.

    ·         1-2 years of retail experience preferred.

    ·         High School Diploma required.

    ·         Bachelors Degree preferred.

    What to Expect?

    Annual Salary Range: $80,000-$85,000: Offer placement within this range is dependent on a variety of factors, including prior relevant experience, qualifications, and skill set.

    Hybrid role based out of HQ in Irvine, CA with a minimum of 4 days in office.
