Position Summary
The Water Resource Strategy Division of Denver Water is currently seeking a qualified candidate to provide important assistance as a Planner Associate/Planner in the Water Resource Planning group. The Planner Associate/Planner is responsible for supporting a variety of complex programs and projects. This position assists with several critical ongoing efforts including the development and implementation of our long-range Integrated Resource Plan, climate adaptation and mitigation programs, reuse and recycled water programs, the implementation of One Water initiatives, and several other short, mid, and long-term planning efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with various aspects of the Integrated Resources Planning process including analyses of supply, reuse, water use, treatment, distribution, and water efficiency options.
- Help to coordinate personnel and activities necessary to analyze complex water resources problems and solutions coordinating throughout Denver Water divisions and with external consultants.
- Assist with planning for water facilities and large water supply development studies required to assess and obtain adequate water supplies for the long-term future water needs of Denver Water customers, coordinating with state, federal, and local agencies, and other water providers as needed.
- Provide logistical support and insight to help develop and refine processes to apply long-term planning to capital project development and daily operations.
- Assist with technical analyses of climate change impacts, developing innovative communication strategies for engaging utility employees with climate change adaptation, and analyzing and implementing various forecasting methods, early warning systems, and mitigation and adaptation strategies.
- Support various aspects of developing and refining our non-potable recycled water system including ongoing and future efforts to implement a One Water strategy.
- Assist with cross-divisional efforts to develop, implement, and monitor capital plans, business cases, and other budget processes that align spending with strategic priorities.
- Help to prepare accurate, clear, and concise oral and written reports to enable strategic presentation to staff, Executive Team, Board, and stakeholders.
- Help to organize and coordinate the work of others. Exercise technical and quality control of multi-disciplinary work efforts to assist with various project management responsibilities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, local, state, and federal agencies, special interest groups, and customers.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge about current water issues within the region, State and nationally. • Bring innovative ideas to the water resource planning efforts. Make informed decisions based on current research and data.
- Represent Denver Water with various external organizations, conferences, symposiums, workshops, etc.
