Duties

As a Meteorologist, you will perform the following duties:

• Provides expertise in the transition of Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) capabilities into operations via quality control of product improvement projects. Conducts field coordinated outreach communication and management of risks and field impacts by being an expert liaison between organizations to communicate and coordinate activities by serving as intermediary between headquarters and field operations. Provides advice and guidance to the AWIPS management and stakeholders on sensitive issues and projected operational problems requiring immediate attention or intervention, particularly those that involve multiple admin/operational activities.
• Evaluate the quality and timeliness of the products and services and ensure adherence to establish policy, adequacy, and usefulness with service improvement goals or increased product usefulness. Performs expert-level analyses of AWIPS to provide forecasts and guidance. Oversees the internal and external ingestion and integration meteorological, hydrological, satellite, and radar data. identify program management problems, assess program management needs and assure the presence and flow of communication between the field and Headquarters with management counterparts at any level, safety and health organizations, and other organizations having national significance relevant to AWIPS program.
• Serves as an expert forecaster providing warnings, advisories, aviation and other forecasts to public and special user groups. Provides the overall weather situation assessment for all shift staff at the onset of the shift. Serves as an expert for one or more major product areas such as satellite meteorology, marine weather, hydrometeorology, aviation, etc. Determines forecast guidance requirements, working with all levels to evaluate and improve guidance packages. Develops area-wide warning and preparedness programs and severe weather public awareness programs. Oversee transfer of technology from research to operational environments.
