Meteorologist investigates, integrates and analyzes meteorological data from a variety of sources, including surface and air stations, satellites, and radar to prepare reports and forecasts for public and other uses. Analyzes weather model guidance and issues specialized hazardous weather forecasts when warranted. Being a Meteorologist requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Meteorologist work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver weather reports and forecasts for on-air and on digital platforms at regularly scheduled times, either live or recorded. Deliver severe weather updates as needed.
- Analyze weather data and synthesize the information into clear, easy-to-understand graphics.
- Present weathercasts from the studio or on-location.
- A degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology
- Must be skilled with telling a comprehensive and clear weather story, especially during extreme weather events
- Must be skilled at posting weather-related information on social media channels
- Must have 5 years of related experience
- NWA and/or AMS Certified meteorologist preferred
