Performs parking meter revenue collection and minor parking lot and general street right of way maintenance at the City’s request. Installs, repairs, and maintains parking and traffic signage and bumper blocks City-wide. Through on-the-job training, employees perform progressively responsible and diverse skilled work to prepare for possible progression to the Parking Meter Technician classification.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Performs single space and multi space meter collections; returns collections to the vault for counting
- Reports defective meters; removes foreign objects from meters; performs minor maintenance by lubricating locks and unjamming meters
- Installs, repairs, and maintains the signage, striping, and bumper blocks in the City parking lots and locations throughout the City
- Completes deposit slips; maintains records of collections; delivers money, reports, and keys to appropriate offices
- Operates paint striping equipment to line parking lot, parking garage facilities and on-street parking.
- Maintains, replaces and installs pedestrian and traffic signage City-wide
- Completes required work reports and records
- Reviews parking meter back office software in multiple systems
- Performs related work as requested
- Graduation from an accredited high school, vocational school, or possession of a G.E.D. from a recognized issuing agency.
- Some experience in parking operations, security and/or back office software is preferred.
- Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record within 30 days of hire.
Special Requirements: Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine who will be required to work.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 60 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available. May perform occasional outside work for site visits.

Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants may be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J204).
