Meter Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of meter field service activities. Oversees and provides technical support to field staff regarding the reading of meters. Being a Meter Operations Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. The purpose of this classification is to perform activities involving meter reading for City utility services. Position is considered essential during emergencies and is required to work during storm-related events. Position is also subject to work overtime, including holidays and weekends.
Performs meter reading activities on an assigned route; records meter data into handheld computerized meter reading device and verifies accuracy of readings; troubleshoots high/low water bills; researches abnormal meter readings; re-reads meters with unusual usage levels; and verifies that meters are registering consumption accurately.
Performs customer service functions; provides information/assistance regarding department services, procedures, documentation, fees, or other issues; interprets policies and explains procedures to customers.
Ensures routine maintenance is performed on assigned truck and equipment; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections, including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, cleanliness of vehicle, etc.; fuels trucks; loads and secures materials; reports all problems or necessary repairs to appropriate personnel immediately; completes and maintains inspection, gas usage and other associated documentation.
Adheres to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Communicates with supervisor, City employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Operates an assigned service vehicle, a hand held meter reading device and a two-way radio to complete essential functions.
High School diploma or GED; six (6) months of experience in meter reading or working in adverse environmental conditions such as rain, extreme temperatures, etc. is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
