JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Assurance Microbiologist Intern is a member of the QA/RA department, supporting the Quality Operations team. Working under the supervision of a mentor, the Quality Assurance Microbiologist Intern will be primarily involved on projects and tasks to support New World Medical sustaining (day to day) and New Product Development (NPD) activities such as the implementation of specific tasks and supporting in the coordination of microbiology and environmental monitoring testing. The QA Microbiologist Intern will also have the opportunity to participate in the support of executing microbiology studies and validations pertaining primarily to Quality Assurance and supporting in other Engineering Studies across the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all work in compliance with the company policy and within the guidelines of New World Medical Inc.’s Quality System.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, good clinical practice and FDA regulations.
- Perform and/or coordinate environmental monitoring testing (e.g., viable and non-viable).
- Perform, analyze, and interpret microbial testing according to USP and regulatory requirements.
- Under the guidance of the QA Microbiologist, the intern will perform various tasks supporting current sustaining and NPD projects under development.
- Under the guidance of the QA Microbiologist, execute laboratory notebook studies (feasibility testing) for Microbiology studies and test equipment in preparation for IQ/OQ/PQ validations.
- Help organize and execute test protocols under the direction of QA Microbiologist.
- Manage short-term quality assurance engineering projects including investigation of requirements, writing test protocols, execution of validation activities and writing the final report.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong laboratory skills
- Knowledge of basic math operations, algebra, and statistics.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PP, MS Outlook).
- Outgoing self-starter who has an eagerness to learn
- Demonstrates ability to manage multiple tasks
- Focus on details, strong organization skills
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Demonstrate strong organization, planning, and prioritizing abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university during the internship at a junior or senior status (or a recent graduate) in a Science major (Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry degrees preferred)
- Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science degree program, or related academic major, required.
- Must have coursework in the sciences that includes Biology, Immunology or Microbiology Laboratories.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds; this may be done with reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the cleanroom and travel to and from the QC Laboratory, office buildings to access supply cabinets, setup and operate equipment, employee offices, office machinery, etc. This may include, but is not limited to, bending and walking.
- Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a computer printer, computer keyboard, calculator, etc.
- Must be able to view and type on computer screens for long periods of time.
