Job Title: Microbiologist
Summary
BioLogic Resources LLC is a food testing laboratory that offers laboratory solutions to the food manufacturing industry. Our team provides analytical testing and laboratory services that help clients understand the quality, safety and performance of their products, operations, and environment.
We currently have an opening for a full-time Food Microbiologist in our laboratory located in Portland, OR. Our Microbiologists work in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory preparing and analyzing various types of food and environmental samples. Our group works as a team to ensure samples are processed quickly while following SOPs to ensure the resulting data is accurate and timely. Primary Responsibilities:
· Logs in and prepares samples for analysis. Analyzes samples per adherence to laboratory procedures, ISO/IEC 17025 specifications, and/or customer requests.
· Analyzes samples for pathogens using various pathogen detection methods.
· Performs microbiological analyses on samples using classical, approved microbiology standard methods
· Accurately documents, records and reviews data.
· Performs laboratory QA/QC checks, including but not limited to instrument and test calibration, positive and negative controls, sterility checks, balance checks, etc., and documents results.
· Chooses appropriate SOP for analysis.
· Generates final laboratory reports and sends them to clients as soon as they are complete.
· Communicates with clients via telephone and email regarding results, methodology, and any questions clients may have.
· Identifies, reports, and assists in investigations for any corrective actions.
Required Skills
· Experience in microbiology bench work and analysis including aseptic technique and use of microbiology laboratory tools and instruments.
· Ability to maintain detailed lab notes and accurately document results.
· Strong communication and critical thinking skills, and strong attention to detail.
· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
· Ability to determine correct course of action regarding sample analysis and appropriate test methodology.
· Ability to write reports and technical procedures.
· Ability to effectively present technical information and respond to questions from clients, customers, and fellow professionals.
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
· Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instruction.
· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
· Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
· Ability to work well under pressure, in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
· Ability to work independently while contributing to the overall workload.
· Ability to work the occasional weekend or overtime.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Microbiology from a four-year college or university; three to five years related experience (food microbiology preferred).
