Millwright maintains industrial machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand and power tools. Moves, assembles, installs or dismantles machinery. Being a Millwright interprets schematic diagrams, blueprints, and sketches. Analyzes plans for new equipment and maps out space to unpack and assemble new equipment. Additionally, Millwright troubleshoots problems and repairs or replaces worn or broken parts as necessary. May use equipment like forklifts, aerial lifters, and cranes to move heavy or unwieldy machinery. May perform welding, fabrication, or calibration as needed. Follows all work site safety requirements and regulations. Typically requires a high school diploma. May require OSHA Forklift Operator Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Millwright works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Millwright typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. This is a routine position for performing the general repairs and maintenance duties of the plant. This position is for the thorough on-the-job training of employee. An employee of this class should have general mechanical ability for on the job training as a millwright helper. Must have aptitude for mechanical, plumbing and electrical work, and ability to perform same. Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent; must be able to understand and perform plumbing, electrical and mechanical type work or have vocational school or training in these lines of work. Must have a valid Ohio driver's license. All applicants may be required to take and pass a basic mathematics and or job related test and/or practical test administered by the Lorain Civil Service Commission. A passing grade of 70 must be achieved on this test.
