Full-Time Teacher Assistant for Preschool Expansion Program (PEA)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• NJ Substitute or Teacher Certification
• Experience working with young children is preferred.
• Knowledge of child growth and development and appropriate classroom practices.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Physical examination, including testing for the usage of controlled dangerous substances.
• Experience or familiarity with the Creative Curriculum program is preferred

REPORTS TO: Principal/Classroom Teacher

JOB GOAL: To promote the achievement of students’ educational goals and learning objectives by providing supplemental services to assist the preschool classroom teacher.

WORK YEAR: 10 Months

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the supervision of classroom activities under the direction and supervision of the certified classroom teacher, principal or other designated certified personnel.
• Assists in the delivery of an effective instructional program.
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
• Helps students with equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
• Distributes and collects materials for instruction.
• Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Helps the teacher to plan and maintain current student work on display
• Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
• Helps teacher with anecdotal notes of student progress throughout each day
• Performs clerical duties related to the instructional program including attendance reports, collection of money, duplication of materials, and distribution and return of notices to home.
• Helps very young students with their clothing, snack time routine, and toileting activities.
• Participates in in-service training as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board on evaluation of support staff.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
