Monitor Technician examines heartbeat patterns on electrocardiograph monitors. Makes note of irregular rhythms and monitors changes in heartbeat. Being a Monitor Technician provides notes to medical staff in charge of the patient. Ensures that monitors are functioning properly. Additionally, Monitor Technician may require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Monitor Technician works under moderate supervision. Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Monitor Technician is responsible for operating the monitoring equipment on the Telemetry Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for observing the adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient's cardiac rhythms. The Monitor Technician observes these rhythms on a continuous basis, to rapidly detect and report dysrhytmias to assure proper treatment.
