Position Summary: Under supervision of the Director, Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator or Charge Nurse and close direction of a registered nurse, administers patient care and related activities, services and/or procedures to promote the physical and emotional health and personal comfort needs for assigned patients. Delivery of patient care includes data collection, documentation, communication, implementation of patient care interventions in accordance with state Nursing Practice Acts and generic/unit structure standard, watching patient monitors and informing the RN of significant rhythms, and admitting/discharging patients from the monitoring system. The Monitor Tech / Unit Clerk practices autonomously and demonstrates efficiency in prioritizing and multi-tasking while supporting a collaborative environment. The Monitor Tech / Unit Clerk demonstrate proficiency in transcribing physician orders; using the order-entry system; and monitoring patient cardiac rhythms and vital signs
via monitor. The Monitor Tech / Unit Clerk practices professional communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff while supporting care that is provided in a patient and family centered environment. The Monitor Tech/Unit Clerk adheres to established policies and procedure and supports the Mission, Vision, and Philosophy of Nursing at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

VII. Duties:

2. Maintains reporting responsibility to Department Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator, Charge Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Director.
3. Demonstrates and adheres to organizational policies and procedures designed to provide a safe environment. (i.e. National Patient Safety Goals; principles of proper body mechanics/ergonomics; fall risk guidelines).
4. Ensure completion of unit specific assigned tasks (e.g. census logs, telemetry logs, etc).
5. Ensures admits, discharges, and transfers are appropriately entered into the computer system.
6. Actively participates in performance improvement activities.
7. Informs department leadership (i.e. Charge Nurse, Clinical Supervisor/Coordinator, Director) of any patient/family concerns and/or satisfaction issues.
8. Informs Charge Nurse, in real time, of any issue regarding admit, discharge, or transfer of a patient.
9. Engaged in patient satisfaction.
10. Performs on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms and/or vital signs.
11. Promptly answers unit phones and patient call lights and responds in a courteous, respectful manner.
12. Communicates information clearly and effectively.
13. Accurately and efficiently enters/scans orders or documents into the electronic order entry system and/or medical record.
14. Complies with competency expectations and adheres to Infection Control standards.
15. Complies with organizational policies, clinical programs and systems necessary to support changing patient care needs.

17. Is a change agent for hospital/department initiatives.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Licensure/Certifications: Current BLS or successful completion of BLS during orientation period.
Experience: Prefer previous experience with cardiac monitoring. Must be able to successfully identify cardiac rhythms within the initial orientation period. Prefer secretarial experience and previous exposure to medical terminology. Proficient in keyboarding and possesses good Windows platform computer skills.
