General Function

The Family Event Staff provides leadership that enables families to learn and have fun, through direct guided experience, and active participation.

Family Event Staff is responsible for aiding participants using any of the various program areas. This position requires critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently.

Staff is also expected to maintain an awareness of potential problems while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in their particular program area .

EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent with customer service experience preferred. The ability to work well and effectively communicate with a diverse population in a wide variety of situations is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Family Event Staff should have an interest in family activities. Genuine enthusiasm, interest, and commitment to experiential education and a desire to work with children and families.

Expected to be energetic and ready for each day. Ability to lift 40-50 lbs. YMCA staff must possess and keep current the following certifications at all times : Adult / child / infant CPR, First Aid, O2 and AED.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain safe and secure environment for children, being aware of family activities at all times
• Actively participate in activities when appropriate
• Work as a team member with other staff
• Fostering independence, and acting as a role model for the families
• Communicate effectively with families and other YMCA / JCC staff and branch guests.
• Report any concerns to your supervisor
• Respond to emergencies according to YMCA / JCC procedures
• Arrive on time for your scheduled shift dressed within the provided dress code
• Have fun!
• Make sure proper paperwork is filled out for behavior / incident reports
• Follow all YMCA / JCC policies, licensing and TQM standards
• Adhere to any other duties deemed necessary by your supervisor
