Job Description – Rent Collection Specialist

Job Summary:

Redstone, a Burlington, VT based real estate development and property management firm, is seeking a Rent Collection Specialist to perform a variety of functions within its office and supporting the administrative and property management teams. We are looking for a self-driven and competent Collection Specialist to join our team! As a Collection Specialist at Redstone, your main responsibility will be to contact tenants and collect missed and outstanding payments.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Supervises: None 

Wage Status: Non-Exempt; Part-time; 20 hours/week

Job Responsibilities:

Collection Specialist is generally responsible for managing and collection the outstanding accounts receivable from tenants. In addition, they may be responsible for other aspects of collections, resolve customer billing problems and reducing the amount of accounts receivables. Specific responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

• Monitor tenant ledgers, delinquency reports, uncollectible rent and uncollectible other income reports on a daily basis
• Identify outstanding accounts receivable
• Take actions in order to encourage timely payments
• Resolve billing issues
• Contact tenants and discuss their overdue payments
• Responsible for overseeing the preparation and delivery of tenant communication, to encourage timely payment of charges due and facilitate the collection of delinquent accounts
• Coordinate and participate in tenant meetings to review account balances, court status, delinquency history, and any topics related to their ability to meet the financial obligations of their lease agreement
• Responsible for the timely filing of failure to pay rent notices to vacate, small claims filings and eviction filings with the court as well as scheduling the eviction with Sheriff if needed
• Adheres to federal and state Fair Housing Laws, Fair Debt Collection Practices, as well as all company policies
• Prepare and present reports on collection activities and progress
• Liaise with third party collections agency as needed

Experience:

• Proven experience as a Collection Specialist or similar role
• Excellent knowledge of billing procedures
• Knowledge of various collection techniques
• Yardi (preferred)

Strong computer skills, especially in the Microsoft suite. Yardi Voyager experience is a plus.

• Must pass criminal background check.
