Job Title: Mortgage Loan Officer - Sugar Land Location
Position: Non-Exempt / Full Time / Hybrid – must be able to work some nights and weekends.
Role:
To ethically and organically locate and cultivate lending relationships that will result in complete paperwork/ clean file mortgage lending applications to HFCU.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Ethically generate business opportunities to bring new and current members of HFCU to the mortgage department for purchase and refinances. This may include inbound and outbound sales calls, visits with realtors, title companies, SEGs, home builders, cultivating an online/social media presence, as well as other ethically minded lead generation for HFCU mortgage loans.
- Interview and pre-qualify members for HFCU mortgage program options that match the member’s needs. Gather and analyze the required loan application documents for accuracy and completeness. Input the application into one of 2 loan origination systems and submit the complete and compliant application to underwriting for review. Provide the members will all State and Federally required initial disclosures, as well as obtain and review all necessary supporting documentation. Monitor the loan application’s progress, help resolve discrepancies that might arise, and provide follow up to all applicants regarding the loan’s status in a timely manner. Be diligent in combatting fraud.
- Must be available to work a hybrid schedule; remote as well as in-office. Must be available to work some evenings, as well as a rotating, in-office, Saturday shift.
- Able to effectively communicate with the borrower, realtor, title company, loan processor, and underwriter, negotiate terms and conditions of loans with members in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures. Lock loans for members in accordance with HFCU policies and procedures.

- Ability to evaluate loan applications and supporting documentation. Ability to perform complex income analysis including the ability to analyze complicated tax returns, including but not limited to corporate, partnerships, and sub-s corporations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of conventional and/or government lending guidelines, mortgage processing, underwriting and closing procedures, and regulatory compliance. Ability to comply with SAFE Act legislation, which requires annual registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO).

- Proficient at working with multiple software and technology applications. Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
- Files submitted to underwriting should be complete, error free, and meet all state and Federal requirements. Initial disclosures should be provided within the state and federally mandated timeline.
- MLOs are permitted to work a hybrid remote/in office schedule. One MLO must be present in the office at all times that the office is open for business. M-F 9a-7p, Sat 9a-2p.
- Maintain professionalism in the office, out in public, and in any online presence.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience Three to 5 years of Mortgage Loan Officer or related experience.
Education A high school education or GED
Interpersonal Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization Skills for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building
Skills relationships and soliciting business and cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in
communication.
Other Skills Must have good communication skills, self-motivated, time management, 10-key calculator, keyboard skills, and bilingual/Spanish speaker preferred but not required.
Work Hybrid: work from home, out in the community forging relationships and leads, and in office. Some nights and weekends required.
