Position Summary: Via Credit Union is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator to meet with members and potential members in person or over the phone to take mortgage loan applications, collecting accurate information necessary to determine if a mortgage application will be approved under secondary market guidelines; assess member’s needs to advise them of other services offered by Via Credit Union. The Mortgage Loan Officer will develop mortgage loan business by building and maintaining relationships with members, realtors, and affiliates, spending approximately 20-50% of the work week traveling within the community/county/field of membership. Via Credit Union is open Tuesday - Saturday (noon) .

Essential Functions:
- Attend networking functions to increase the awareness of ViaCU’s mortgage services in field of membership counties, these functions may occur outside of Via CU’s normal business hours.
- Develop and maintain industry relationships by calling on and visiting local real estate agents and affiliates in all of the field of membership counties; Be an active affiliate member with local realtor associations.
- Respond to inquiries by members and prospective borrowers in a timely manner. Assess members’ needs and answer questions related to the mortgage process. Introduce them to the features and benefits of products and services that meet their needs.
- Collect, review, and analyze all required data and documents relative to the mortgage loan applications, gather additional data when necessary, verify with the applicant for accuracy.
- Accurately input mortgage loan applications into loan origination software. Provide member with next steps and contact information of ViaCU department personnel.
- Use sound judgement based on established guidelines when accepting loan applications and strictly adhere to federal regulations and ViaCU policies and procedures.
- Mentor and assist the mortgage team throughout the loan process.
- Communicate with members and realtor as needed during the application process. Also serve as a liaison between members and other departments as needed.
- Serve as the closer for internal home equity lines of credit; attend loan closing at title companies.
- Maintain knowledge of secondary market requirements, including PMI and Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA loan types.
- Maintain working knowledge of multiple loan origination software programs. Stay current on all Federal and State Regulations, such as TRID and other regulatory requirements governing the mortgage process.

Skills & Abilities:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: Prior sales or lending experience and/or 2 years prior loan Originator experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills including Word and Excel ; must work with various technologies.
Certifications & Licenses:
- Must be eligible to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
- Must maintain registration with NMLS as a registered Mortgage Loan Originator
- Valid Driver’s License must be insurable, and have reliable transportation.
- Notary Public or must be eligible to secure within 4 weeks.
