Today the NVMM connects, and impacts lives nationwide through live, virtual and hybrid programming.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Reporting to the Education Manager, the Museum Educator supports the production and implementation of educational programming for the Museum. This includes, but is not limited to, leading interpretive experiences for the K-12 community, scheduling school and youth group visits, creating lesson plans and activities aligned to state and national learning standards, engaging in community outreach, and data collection and visitor assessment. The Museum Educator develops innovative ways to connect with diverse audiences and engage with current and potential guests through the Museum's educational programs.

    The ideal candidate will have experience building, implementing, and evaluating education programs for both adults and children; understanding of lesson plan and digital resource development; experience working with school administrators, teachers, and students. They will have the ability to interact with diverse populations and build partnerships; ability to work in a team environment; ability to supervise volunteers and contracted staff; and a flexible, positive outlook.
    This is a part-time, 20-24 hour/week position.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and implement educational programming for K-12 students, educators, and the public.
    • Lead in-person and virtual field trips of the Museum.
    • Represent the NVMM at community outreach opportunities.
    • Attend public programs including exhibition openings, artist talks and lectures, teacher workshops, etc.
    • Review, analyze and refresh website content on a regular basis.
    • Collaborate with external partners as necessary to support program implementation.
    • Communicate with educators and administrators regarding pre- and post-school group visits.
    • Research content essential for museum program development.
    • Ensure supplies are ordered, properly organized, and on-hand for program delivery.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
    • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    • BA or BFA in education, museum studies, history or a related field is preferred. Those working towards a degree will also be considered.
    • Background and/or strong interest in American history, military history and community engagement is a plus.
    • Experience working with youth groups and/or K-12 students in a museum or other informal learning environment.
