    Position Purpose : To research, document, exhibit, and teach with the Asian art collection and participate in the collection’s preservation, augmentation, and dissemination.

    To participate as part of a team of professionals in support of teaching and learning with art at the museum and Dartmouth.

    To create compelling permanent collection-based gallery installations and manage loan exhibitions and generate original research for exhibition catalogues.

    Key Accountabilities : Creates and implements a strategic vision for the growth and critical interpretation of the Asian art collection.

    Researches and documents the Asian art collection and assists and advises the director on matters concerning the collection’s preservation and growth.

    Conceptualizes and organizes exhibitions and collections installations that place the collection in cultural, historical, and contemporary context, writes label copy, and plans programming working closely with the programs, exhibitions, education, and the external relations teams.

    Works on all aspects of scheduled exhibitions, including generating loans, securing venues for travel, and coordinating the work of guest curators or essayists.

    Conducts research for possible purchases and / or gifts and presents proposed acquisitions and deaccessions to the museum’s acquisitions committee.

    Presents campus and public tours, lectures, and gallery talks and meets with Dartmouth faculty and staff, museum docents, the media, and museum donors.

    Catalogues and updates object-documentation standards, files, and insurance valuation. Updates document files and the appropriate collection section of the museum website.

    Answers or directs inquiries and requests for information on collection.Supports the director in promoting relationships with donors and collectors and represents the museum at donor and other high-profile events.

    Represents the museum on local, regional, and national levels though participation in relevant professional organizations.

    Conceptualizes and authors grant proposals and serves as project director on awarded grants as appropriate.Mentors student interns in research or curatorial projects.

    Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, accessibility and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

    Performs other responsibilities as required.Required Qualifications : Bachelors degree in Art History or related field with an emphasis on Asian art plus 3-5 years experience, or MA plus 2-3 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Three years of museum experience building and working with collections.Understanding of curatorial practices, research, and methodology.

    Knowledge and critical understanding of museum ethics and principles.Ability to effectively communicate with multiple audiences and stakeholders through writingExcellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

    Familiarity with organization and preparation of special exhibitions.Ability to thrive in a team-based and collaborative working environment.

    Demonstrated record of scholarship and / or public scholarship.Demonstrated record of discernment in acquisitions, exhibitions, and / or publications.

    Ability to engage with a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of diverse communities.

    Preferred Qualifications : Masters degree or Ph.D.Five years of art or object-based museum experience.Record of organization and preparation of special exhibitions.
