    ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF LATIN AMERICAN ART

    The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach, California is the only museum in

    the western United States that exclusively features contemporary Latin American and Latinx art.

    MISSION

    The Museum of Latin American Art expands knowledge and appreciation of modern and

    contemporary Latin American and Latinx art through its collection, ground-breaking exhibitions,

    stimulating educational programs and engaging cultural events.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    MOLAA is hiring a fulltime Museum Educator who will specialize in research and interpretation to

    support MOLAA’s active school and public programming.

    The Museum Educator assists in researching, coordinating, and providing virtual and on-site

    learning experiences to visitors of all ages through MOLAA’s APRENDE (LEARN) and MOLAA

    En Casa education programs. This position reports to the VP of Learning and Public

    Engagement.

    In conjunction/collaboration with the VP, this position is responsible for developing and

    presenting the programming and tours related to MOLAA exhibitions, permanent collection,

    and relevant cultural traditions and events such as Dia de los muertos and Latinx Heritage

    Month.

    Learning experiences will be coordinated and presented both onsite and online, with digital

    content delivered to the public through the institutional Zoom Account or through the video

    conferencing software used by the school or institution requesting the content. The Museum

    Educator schedule may vary from month to month, based on the MOLAA programs calendar,

    with occasional weekend and evening programming for general audiences. The Museum

    Educator must have a flexible schedule & availability between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

    to allow for scheduled tours and workshops and weekend programming.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Developing content and coordinating and hosting programs such as

    • Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating virtual, hybrid, and onsite festivals and

    events;

    • Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating virtual, hybrid, and onsite seasonal

    camps for children,

    • Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating virtual, hybrid, and onsite school tours

    and workshops,

    • Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating virtual, hybrid, and onsite

    demonstrations and performances,

    • Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating virtual, hybrid, and onsite lectures,

    screenings, presentations, and symposia.

    • Work with the Communications and Public Affairs team in developing any collateral and

    preparing any materials related to these programs. All work produced will be intellectual

    property of MOLAA and can be used for future programming.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Research and help develop compelling content and creative material to include in

    storytelling projects used for exhibition touring, educational programing, grant

    proposals, fundraising, marketing and media.

    • Promote MOLAA’s mission, collections, research, exhibitions, events, programs, and

    initiatives with a consistent message.

    • Collaborate across departments to deliver an effective content strategy and editorial

    plan to meet institutional objectives regarding gallery interpretation.

    • Collaborate with the VP to develop topics, gather, write, and edit content to share with

    Docents and Gallery Interpreters.

    • Able to work independently and in a team setting; ability to self-motivate, to give and

    receive feedback in positive and productive ways; to be patient and flexible with

    volunteers and presenters who may have little to no tech experience. Adept a

    troubleshooting and work-arounds

    • Manage online discussions in Google Classrooms by listening to users, reading posts,

    and responding in a timely manner to user needs and requests.

    • Assist in the direction and management of creative resources (from creative firms to

    volunteers) for content development.

    • Work as a team member with the Curatorial & Interpretation and Communications &

    Public Affairs team on various projects.

    • Regularly provide information about new trends and/or opportunities that could further

    MOLAA strategic initiatives.

    • Contributes to, and collaborate on, the development of best practices and adoption

    policies for the MOLAA library and publication program/book adoption.

    • Assist in the development and updating of the docent handbook and EDU Chat

    program.

    DESIRED QUALITIES:

    • Maintain inventory of art materials and complete purchase orders and expense request

    forms when necessary.

    • Assist with setup and breakdown of MOLAA education programs as required; assist with

    facilitating digital and on-site programs, including tours and workshops when necessary.

    • Assist in working with education events and program volunteers when necessary.
    • Attend off-site outreach events when necessary.
    • Assist with the evaluation and revision of education materials.
    • Experience with feedback and program assessment tools like Typeform, SurveyMonkey,

    Google Forms is a plus.

    • Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.

    Position Requirements:

    • Degree in Art, Art Education, or Art History or equivalent experience.
    • Passion for education as well a Latin American and Latinx art, culture, and communities.
    • Strong research, writing, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively

    communicate and work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, ages, and educational

    levels.

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Very strong administrative skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
    • Must be comfortable interacting with the public and provide exceptional visitor service.
    • Some knowledge in video conferencing software, including but not limited to Zoom,

    Google Meet, Cisco Web Ex. with the ability and openness to learn.

    • Some evening and weekend shifts are required.
    • Self-starter with some project management skills, including schedule development,

    tracking, task prioritization, and an ability to meet tight deadlines.

    • Ability to negotiate the requests and needs of different internal stakeholders while firmly

    advocating for our audiences.

    • Experience teaching art at any level strongly desired.
    • Background or knowledge of Modern/Contemporary Latin American Art is a plus.
    • Requires a valid driver’s license, valid vehicle insurance and access to a vehicle.
